Help you kids surprise their dad on Father’s Day with this fun and festive handmade bunting!

Supplies needed:

⁃ 5 (or more) 10 inch Cotton fabric squares (buy premade at a craft store, or cut up an old white sheet to make your own)

⁃ Free printable upper-case alphabet letters to spell DAD (we got ours from thesprucecrafts.com)

⁃ Fabric markers (crayola markers work, but they can wash off)

⁃ Fresh flowers, stems removed. (We found that geraniums, pansies, and violets/violas work best)

⁃ Fresh green flower leaves, stems removed

⁃ Wooden cutting board

⁃ Wax paper

⁃ Hammer or mallet

⁃ Twine

⁃ Clothes pins

Instructions:

⁃ Cut out your fabric squares (if making your own)

⁃ Print out letters onto single sheets of paper. We only printed one capital D and one capital A to spell DAD, and just used the same D template to trace onto both of our D fabric squares)

⁃ Pin or tape the letters onto your fabric squares, and trace using a black fabric marker (crayolas and sharpies will work too)

⁃ Have your kids color the letters in using whatever colors inspire you all

⁃ Move the project outside, and bring a large wooden cutting board and hammer or mallet

⁃ Cover the cutting board with a piece of wax paper (to prevent flower dye from transferring onto the board)

⁃ Place a fabric square on the cutting board, on top of the wax paper

⁃ Arrange flowers and leaves in an attractive way

⁃ Cover with another sheet of wax paper

⁃ Instruct your kids to gently but firmly pound the flowers and leaves with hammer until all of the color in flowers has been transferred onto the fabric (careful adult supervision required for this step! Fingers can get injured by hammers)

⁃ Once all of the flowers have been adequately pounded, gently peel the wax paper away and carefully remove any bits of flower that are stuck to the fabric

⁃ Repeat this process for each fabric square

⁃ Hang bunting on a piece of twine using clothes pins

And that’s it!

Such a fun way to surprise Dad on Father’s Day!

Happy Father’s Day!!!
